I have just returned from Ghana, Africa as a study abroad student. We traveled to the Deaf School in Mampong, Ghana, where I had the great honor of presenting to the students the KleenSlate dry erase paddles. I wish you could have been there to see the look on the headmasters face as I told her how the KleenSlate dry erase paddles could be used. But, it was the excitement of the children using the paddles that showed me what a wonderful communication tool it would become for each of them. Their smiles I will never forget as each of them gripped their paddles as a precious gift. As you can see, your kind donation will ease the frustrations of the limited chalkboard space for the teachers, and provide the young Deaf students a voice when they do not understand the lesson. All of this will greatly increase the success of the teacher’s lesson plans in the classroom. This is especially important for a country with a very high level of illiteracy.

Thank you so much for the classroom paddle set! My students and I were amazed when we opened the box, and we began to use them immediately. You can imagine their excitement! They absolutely love them! My principal happened to walk in shortly afterward, and she, also was very impressed. We’ve been using them for Math. Of course, I’ve done the typical “hold up the answer” activities, but I’ve also come up with some other (although maybe not so original) ideas. I asked the class to write one number on their board from 0-9. Then they had to find one friend and add the two numbers together, go to another friend, and another, and another until I rang my bell. We did the same activity with subtraction facts. The boys wrote a number fro 0-9, the girls from 13-16. Well, there was so much laughter as they were doing from friend to friend, that the first grade teachers came over to see what we were doing! I’ve also used them for fact families. The students were asked to write either an addition of subtraction fact on their paddle. Then they looked to see if anyone else wrote a fact from the same family. If they found a match, both came to me and gave me the name of their fact family.

Last Year I taught 7th grade at a school that had individual white boards and I loved them. The one thing I found difficult was the time it took to have everyone get his or her own marker, board, and eraser. Then after learning they had to put everything back. I probably lost about 10 minutes of teaching time. That’s when I saw your website! With your invention that wasted time is gone and there is more time to learn.
